What have I been doing recently?
1. I very begrudgingly turned twenty-six years old.
Somehow moving past twenty-five seems like I’ve officially crossed to the darker, more dismal side of the age spectrum. Blegh.
2. With my serious dislike of winter and cold, my little plant babies have been a huge excitement in my life.
See??!! I grew these!!!
At least, I provided good conditions and watched intrigued as the first tiny bits of white showed in the tips of the seeds, slowly curled into the soil, and each little bitty plant slowly straightened and two tiny leaves popped open. Oh, the miracle of life. Occasionally I grab my husband by the hand and tell him, “Come on, I want to show you something!” And he permits himself to be towed along and says things like “Whoa!”, and “Amazing!”. But his enthusiasm doesn’t measure up to mine. 🙂
This is my very
professional simple setup. Cheap shop lights and daylight bulbs. They worked great last year, and are still doing their job this year. I first tried this last year because I wanted to plant a lot of flowers, and seeds are so much cheaper than getting the quantity I wanted from a greenhouse. But, ahem, I may have bought a few too many seeds this year, and now need to go get more lights. I could see this becoming a vicious cycle.
3. I got my long awaited shag rug for our living room!
To explain things a little, we have a very long, narrow living room with blue carpet. It’s a decently neutral blue and almost looks grey sometimes. Still, I cannot bring myself to love (or even like) it, and at the moment there’s no option to replace it as so many DIY bloggers would. And that’s ok. Things don’t need to be perfect to have an inviting home!
But, about two years ago I hatched a brilliant idea. A huge, fluffy, shag rug would do wonders to make me like our living room more. I could place our furniture on it, creating a more defined seating area instead of just having furniture plopped in various places on a huge expanse of blue carpet. A thick shag would be different enough from the dense looped carpet that it wouldn’t look absolutely horrendous to have a rug on carpet (theoretically). And all in all it would be so much cozier!
So I researched and researched huge, fluffy rugs. About a year and a half ago I picked out the one I wanted. This one…from Rugs USA.
Then I waited. And waited.
It was a big purchase on something not very necessary…not one to be made rashly. I watched it cycle through sales and figured out the absolute cheapest I could get it. For the record, Black Friday is the best time to buy from Rugs USA. I watched two Black Fridays come and go, and just recently, when they had a sale that was almost as good, we bought it! Oh joy! Hallelujah!
Then I waited with bated breath for it to arrive to see if it would live up to my expectations. It did. Now to experiment with throw pillows and all kinds of other fun things. And to dream of maybe, just maybe, someday buying the house and replacing the carpet with hardwood. Wouldn’t that be lovely?
4. I’ve been sewing for people again.
After a long break of not much seamstressing, I took on a few projects. I have two dresses on my agenda for a wedding in March, one a pretty pale pink with lace and the other mint with ruffles.
…plus various other sewing projects.
5. But the number one thing that has been taking my time recently is figuring out how to set up a little shop on my website.
Yes, a shop. I’m going to sell things. Starting with these adorable little bits of paper.
I’m not sure of the proper etiquette for saying things I create are adorable. Somehow saying “I made this. Isn’t it darling?!” makes me feel a bit full of myself. But I don’t know how such an itty bitty card can NOT be adorable. They’re just three inches square, and perfect for a tiny little note for a friend, as a gift tag, or whatever.
And since I stubbornly refuse to do things until I feel like I know exactly what I’m doing, it’s taking a while to set up my shop front. So many little things to learn and understand. But it will be coming soon, and until then, here are some more sneak peeks of my latest fun project. 🙂
